CEVO Selections came out on Saturday and since then I have witnessed a lot of things in this Community that have made me wonder what has happened over the years. It seems that the more members join this community and the more it appears to be "growing", the further backwards it goes. As it stands, I have seen so many teams die or be on the verge of dying because they did not make CEVO-Main selections. While on a personal level I do not particularly agree with some of those CEVO selections, I don't believe there are that many teams that understand the bigger picture or the opportunity that this situation has put them in.
As I've stated, the Australian Counter-Strike:Source Community appears to be running backwards. No one wants to grow as a Community anymore. No one wants to move forward anymore. Every player and his dog has this ironed out image in their mind that they are the best player that ever existed. This article is the reality check for you.
YOU ARE NOT GOD'S GIFT TO THE AUSTRALIAN COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE COMMUNITY. YOU ARE A GRAIN OF SAND IN THIS COMMUNITY AND IT WOULD BENEFIT YOU MORE TO GO WITH THE FLOW RATHER THAN TRYING TO BE ABRASIVE.
What has happened over the past couple of days was enough to make the entire community bend over backwards. Conspiracy theories, baseless accusations and egos at critical mass to the point where they spew garbage at an alarming rate. This attitude in the Community has to end. I cannot believe that some people practically spat in the face of JoolzCheat even after he has donated money for the Community's Competitions.
Do people honestly get their kicks from saying these sorts of things? From attempting to drive the community into the ground, what do you hope to accomplish from that? Do you wish to see the Australian Counter-Strike:Source Community go nowhere?
I do not think enough appreciation goes towards those that put their time and effort (and it's A LOT of effort) into making this Community somewhat decent. All LAN Admins, CEVO Officials, CS:S Admins, Content Managers, Donators, Referees, the Anti-Cheat Panel, the CEVO-Selections Panel and even just the helpers without a title. All of these people work so hard to drive the community in the right direction and then we have mere participants in the community that have trouble seeing eye to eye and instantly blame it on them. The attitudes displayed in this community need to stop, you are not cool for being different and not appreciating the work that goes into these. After my last article, farewelling Vex, only some people actually caught a glimpse of how helpful he was in the Community. Some never even knew that he salvaged PlanB Nationals from the ground and saved Australian Source for the year.
If your team died because you did not make CEVO selections, you have failed yourself in this Community. You gave up, and thus do not even deserve a look in this Community.
Even as a part of this Community, you should know that giving up is not a sign of moving forward AT ALL. Those who said, "I swore I'd never play in Amateur again" don't seem to understand or comprehend their own arrogance in the matter. While Amateur is an Open League, it's still an opportunity for the most part to get your name out there. If your team makes finals, you get considered for a higher level. If you produce a shining performance in those finals stages, you have bettered yourself as a player and opportunities will come to you. For the simplest part of it, why not just stick together to win the cash that the Amateur League has to offer? I mean really, if you think you're so great, you should easily win it right? Right?
These are the my thoughts I leave with you. The era of teams dying because they did not make higher grades ends now. The Tall-Poppy Syndrome approach to the Amateur leagues gets cured now. The amount of garbage that gets posted on the forums gets cleaned up now.
We begin to draw the line between banter and personal attacks today.
It's about time this Community grew up and hardened up.
It's your choice Australia, do you want to move forward? Or move backward?
